‘A’ is used before common nouns which are in the singular number, and which begin with a consonant sound. Example – a book, a tree, a cow, a school, etc.
‘A’ – का इस्तेमाल एकवचन के लिए होता है, यह consonant से शुरू होने वाले शब्दों से पहले किया जाता है|
‘AN’ is used before common nouns which are in the singular number, and which begin with a vowel sound. A, e, I, o, and u are vowels. Example – an elephant, an airplane, an umbrella, an orange, an ink-pot, etc.
‘AN’ – का इस्तेमाल एकवचन के लिए होता है, यह vowel से शुरू होने वाले शब्दों से पहले किया जाता है|
Note: the words ‘hour’ and ‘honest’ begin with the consonant ‘h’, but the ‘h’ is silent. Therefore, we use ‘an’ before them – ‘an honest boy’, ‘an hour.
